Jean B. Garlock 1921-2009
KINSMAN - Jean B. Garlock, 88, passed away Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Andover Village Retirement Community, Andover.
She was born July 13, 1921, in Ada, a daughter of Paul and Frances Shanks Porter.
She was a 1937 graduate of Johnston High School and received her bachelor's degree in education from Ohio Northern University in 1942.
Jean married Lawrence ''Luke'' Garlock, Sept. 15, 1945, in Johnson, and he preceded her in death June 8, 1976.
She was a teacher for 23 years at Kinsman/Badger High School until she retired in 1975. She also worked for the Champion and Howland school districts and United Airlines in reservations. Luke and Jean owned and operated a dairy farm in Kinsman for more than 20 years.
Jean was an active member of Kinsman United Methodist Church where she was a participant in Women's Society and was a Conference Delegate. She was also a member of Johnston Literary Club, Bay View Literary Club, Chat-n-Patch, Business Women's Association, American Legion Auxiliary, Kinsman/Hartford Eastern Star Chapter and several card clubs. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross Bloodmobile drive for more than 30 years.
Jean is survived by her children, Lawrence ''Larry'' (Barbara) Garlock of Kinsman and Trudy J. (Lewis) Skelton of Strongsville; brother, James H. (Cornelia) Porter of Kirtland; sister-in-law, Jane Porter of Geneva-on-the-Lake; grandchildren, Jody (Scott) Hanes of Fremont, Devon (Ryan) Weaver of Astoria, Ore., Lauren Skelton of Seattle, Jeffery Garlock of Kinsman, Kelly McDevitt of Anchorage, Alaska, and Donny Hennessy of Clearwater, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Luke Garlock; and brother, William ''Bill'' Porter.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Kinsman Cemetery Chapel with lunch to follow at the Kinsman United Methodist Church.

Charles Lee McGill Sr. 1929-2009
KINSMAN - Charles Lee McGill Sr., 80, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Greenville, UPMC Hospital.
He was born March 11, 1929, in Hubbard, a son of Mary Virginia Marshall McGill and Orland Edward McGill.
A member of the 1947 Kinsman High School class, Charlie served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
In 1958, Charlie started the McGill Septic Tank Co. and was currently serving as the company's president.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church where he was the first altar server and helped with the construction of the current church building. Charlie was a member of the Harry Lees American Legion Post No. 506 of Kinsman, and was a member of the National Precast Association.
A believer in giving people a second chance in life, Charlie was a very generous person. He supported the local charities and was there to lend a helping hand for whomever and whenever it was needed. Charlie had a great ability to tell stories and put smiles on faces even if you were feeling down and out. He often was seen by others as a father figure and made a difference in many people's lives. Charlie was known to take in stray dogs and had numerous dogs around him from a young age. He enjoyed going to flea markets, gardening, spending time on his bulldozer and fishing.
On April 11, 1954, he married Patricia Ann Knepper. She precedes him in death along with his parents; a grandson, Kevin James McGill; and three brothers, Joseph McGill, Orland (Ed) McGill and Frank McGill.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara A. (Bib) McElhinny and M. Christine McGill, both of Kinsman; two sons, Charles L. McGill Jr. of Kinsman and James R. McGill of Jamestown, Pa.; four grandchildren, Jessica, Michael and James McElhinny Jr. and Adam McGill; two brothers, John M. McGill of Warren and Roy J. (Mary) McGill of Kinsman; long time companion, Kathy Flowers; and many friends and neighbors.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 6397 state Route 87, Kinsman, with the Rev. Kevin McCaffrey officiating. Burial will follow at Kinsman Cemetery. Calling hours will be held 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, Ohio.
